Main06 Dark Cave is the largest cave in the Batu Caves hill, the southernmost significant limestone outcrop on the mainland of Asia. The hill is located about 12km north of Kuala Lumpur, Peninsular Malaysia. Dark Cave was discovered in 1889, though by whom have not been recorded, with Mr H.N. Ridley making the first major scientific explorations of the caves in that year. So far 30 caves have been found in the hill. Only a few are developed. The main caves i.e. the Dark Cave, Temple Cave, the Art Gallery and Ramayana Cave are on the south side of the hill.

Dark Cave is located just below Temple Cave. The entrance is located at step number 204 of the 272 steps leading up to Temple Cave. The cave consists of about 2km of surveyed passages, making it the largest in the hill and it comprises 7 chambers, each with its own special features - stalagmites, stalactites, flowstone, cave pearls, curtain, column, cave straws and other features. Some of these formations take thousands of years to grow.
